Water Softener Plant
Ion exchange water softeners that eliminate hardness from water — protecting boilers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and RO membranes from scale and extending equipment life.
Overview
Hard water contains dissolved calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺) ions that cause scale formation in boilers, heat exchangers, cooling towers, and pipelines — reducing efficiency, increasing energy consumption, and causing premature equipment failure. A water softener uses ion exchange resin to replace calcium and magnesium ions with sodium ions, producing soft water that is scale-free and safe for industrial and commercial use.
Aquatic Solutions manufactures ion exchange water softeners in FRP and MS construction, using high-capacity strong acid cation (SAC) resin. Our softeners are available in manual, semi-automatic, and fully automatic configurations with timer or meter-based regeneration. Duplex (twin-vessel) systems provide continuous soft water supply without interruption during regeneration. We supply softeners for boiler feed water, cooling tower makeup, RO pre-treatment, laundry, and domestic hot water systems.

How It Works
Service (Softening)
Hard water flows downward through the SAC resin bed. Calcium and magnesium ions in the water are exchanged with sodium ions on the resin, producing soft water with near-zero hardness at the outlet.
Exhaustion Detection
As the resin exchanges Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ for Na⁺, the resin capacity is gradually exhausted. Hardness breakthrough (detectable hardness in the outlet) or a preset volume/time trigger initiates regeneration.
Backwash
The first step of regeneration is backwash — water flows upward through the resin bed to expand and fluidise it, removing accumulated suspended solids and breaking up any compaction.
Brine Draw (Regeneration)
A concentrated salt (NaCl) solution (brine) is drawn through the resin bed. The high sodium concentration drives the reverse exchange reaction, displacing Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ from the resin and replacing them with Na⁺, restoring resin capacity.
Slow Rinse
A slow rinse with service water pushes the brine through the resin bed, completing the regeneration and removing displaced calcium and magnesium chloride to drain.
Fast Rinse & Return to Service
A fast rinse removes residual brine from the resin bed. The softener is then returned to service, delivering soft water at near-zero hardness until the next regeneration cycle.
