UV Water Disinfection System
Chemical-free ultraviolet disinfection systems that destroy 99.99% of bacteria, viruses, and pathogens — safe, effective, and low-maintenance for drinking water and industrial applications.
Overview
Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection is a proven, chemical-free method of destroying bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and other pathogens in water. UV light at 254 nm wavelength penetrates the cell wall of microorganisms and damages their DNA, preventing reproduction and rendering them harmless. UV disinfection is fast (seconds of contact time), leaves no chemical residues, and does not alter the taste, odour, or pH of water.
Aquatic Solutions manufactures UV disinfection systems for a wide range of applications — from compact 100 LPH units for post-RO drinking water polishing to large 1,00,000 LPH systems for municipal water treatment and industrial process water. Our systems use low-pressure amalgam UV lamps with UV intensity monitoring and automatic lamp replacement alerts to ensure consistent disinfection performance throughout the lamp's 9,000-hour service life.

How It Works
Pre-filtered Water Entry
Pre-filtered, clear water (turbidity < 1 NTU, UVT > 75%) enters the UV chamber. High turbidity or colour reduces UV penetration and disinfection efficacy, so pre-filtration is essential.
UV Lamp Irradiation
Water flows past a low-pressure amalgam UV lamp enclosed in a quartz sleeve. The lamp emits UV light at 254 nm — the peak germicidal wavelength — irradiating all water passing through the chamber.
DNA Damage
UV photons at 254 nm are absorbed by the DNA and RNA of microorganisms, forming thymine dimers that prevent cell replication. Bacteria, viruses, and protozoa (including Cryptosporidium and Giardia) are inactivated within seconds.
UV Intensity Monitoring
A UV intensity sensor continuously monitors the UV dose delivered to the water. If the UV intensity drops below the set point (due to lamp ageing or fouling), an alarm is triggered and the system can shut down to prevent under-disinfected water from passing.
Quartz Sleeve Cleaning
A manual or automatic wiper cleans the quartz sleeve periodically to remove mineral deposits and biofilm that reduce UV transmission, maintaining consistent disinfection performance.
Treated Water Outlet
Disinfected water exits the UV chamber and is ready for use. No chemical residuals are added, and the water quality (taste, odour, pH, TDS) is unchanged by the UV treatment.
